All the States and Union Territories except Bihar, Maharashtra and J&K to pay Rs. 25,000 for failure to submit responses in relation to prison reforms

Supreme Court: In a matter where responses were sought from all the States and Union Territories in respect of unnatural deaths in prison and overcrowding in jail, the bench of Madan B. Lokur and N.V. Ramana, JJ imposed a cost of Rs. 25, 000 on all the States and Union Territories except the States of Bihar, Maharashtra and Jammu & Kashmir i.e. the only States from where the responses had been received. The Court said that the costs has to be deposited within a period of three weeks from the date of the order with the Supreme Court Legal Services Committee for utilization of juvenile justice issues.
