Permanent Lok Adalat (Other Terms and Conditions of Appointment of Chairman and Other Persons) Amendment Rules, 2016

The Central Government in consultation with the Chief Justice of India in exercise of the powers conferred by Section 27 of the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987, makes Permanent Lok Adalat (Other Terms and Conditions of Appointment of Chairman and Other Persons) Amendment Rules, 2016 in order to amend the Permanent Lok Adalat (Other Terms and Conditions of Appointment of Chairman and Other Persons) Rules, 2003. They shall come into force on the date of their publication in the Official Gazette.

In the Permanent Lok Adalat (Other Terms & Conditions of Appointment of Chairman and Other Persons) Rules, 2003, (hereinafter referred to as the principal rules), in rule 3,—

  • In sub-rule (3), for the words “rupees four hundred”, the words “one thousand and five hundred rupees” shall be substituted;
  • In sub-rule (5), for the words “rupees three thousand”, the words “five thousand rupees” shall be substituted.

In the principal rules, in rule 4, for sub-rule (2), the following sub-rule shall be substituted, namely:— “(2) The Chairman and other persons shall hold office for a term of five years or till the age of sixty five years, whichever is earlier”.

  • I would lilke to know about this amendment, whether the new terms and conditions are applicable for the officers working as chairman to the PLA(Re appointment with 5 years service Offered).
    I hope this new terms and conditions are applicable for new notification issued for posting PLA chairman or members.
    I observed that few cases ,Authorities removing PLA chairmen in wrong way unethically and deviating the protocols.
