The third edition of RMLNLU National Mediation Competition was held at RMLNLU, Lucknow from 17th-19th of February, 2016. Sanjana Aravamudhan from NLIU, Bhopal was awarded the best mediator award and a cash prize of Rs. 15,000, while Yamini Kumar from NUJS, Kolkata emerged as the Runner-up Mediator and was awarded a cash prize of Rs. 7,500. Moreover, Priyamvada Mishra who also belonged to NLIU, Bhopal won the award of Best Client and was awarded a sum of Rs. 15,000, while Arushi Nayar from NALSAR emerged as the Runner-up Client and bagged a sum of Rs. 7,500. The team comprising of Vishal Agarwal and Turab Ali from Amity Noida won the title of Best Team and were awarded a prize money of Rs. 5,000.
Forty different teams representing twelve colleges participated in the competition. The format for the competition was a bit tweaked from the traditional format. Contrary to the traditional format where both mediators belong to the same team, here at RML, in every round there were two mediators and two clients, all from different and competing teams. Legal Aid Committee, the organiser of the competition, ensured to organise orientation programmes for the participants to inform them about the format and techniques in a detailed manner. An orientation programme was conducted by Nisshant Laroia from GNLU, winner of the Best Mediator Award of the second edition of the competition. An online training session for the participants was also conducted by Thomas Valenti, founder of Valenti Law and a renowned name in the world of alternative dispute resolution.
The Competition also witnessed the attendance of Hon’ble Justice A.R. Masoodi, Allahabad High Court, Hon’ble Justice D.K. Upadhyaya, Allahabad High Court, Mr. Yashovardhan Swarup, Joint Secretary, Mediation Cell, Lucknow, Mr. Alok Mathur, Member, Mediation Cell, Lucknow and Mrs. Anita Bahri, Senior Advocate, Delhi High Court, who judged the final rounds of the competition.
