It is matter of great pleasure for me to extend a warm welcome to Hon’ble Mr. Justice A.K. Sikri, Judge, Supreme Court of India, to this release function of our latest book on CLIMATE CHANGE Edited by Prof Usha Tandon. We are also thankful to Justice Sikri for contributing a Forword to the book.

And I also extend a warm welcome to

Mr. Mohan Parasaran, Senior Advocate and Former Solicitor General of India

Mr. Sidharth Luthra, Senior Advocate and Former Addl Solicitor of India

Prof Mool Chand Sharma, Prof at the Campus Law Centre and Former Member, Law Commission of India

Prof K P S Mahalwar, Professor at the National Law University, Delhi

I am also very happy to welcome amongst our midst the contributors to the book we are going to release today and the learned Editor of this work Prof Usha Tandon who has made valuable contribution to make this book possible.

I also welcome all our esteemed guests and especially Professors and members of the academic community many of whom have been or are associated with the Campus law Centre which I am proud to say has been my alma mater and if I am not wrong has also been of our Chief Guest today, Justice Sikri.

While extending a warm welcome to all of you, I do wish to take advantage of this rare opportunity to record my immense gratitude to my alma mater and all the Professors and Teachers of the Faculty who literally mentored and nurtured me and which enabled me to work as the Editor of SCC right after I completed my education.

And I am very proud to say that I was in the first batch of the 3 year LLB course introduced way back in 1966 under the deanship of Prof P K Tripathi, more significant for introducing the semester system and even more significant for introducing the case method of teaching.

It was a very high profile faculty and in 3 years of our study we analysed hundreds of cases not only of our own Supreme Court but many Privy Council and English Cases. In fact, since there were no case books and case material, as students we became actively involved in the preparation of the case material which finally helped me do what I have loved doing all these years.

I also pay tribute to the Faculty of Law for being a centre of excellence and many of the Professors have been associated with EBC., including

Prof M P Singh who with his predecessor Prof D K Singh have kept alive the monumental work on the Constitution of India by Prof V N Shukla,

Prof Upendra Baxi for his famous book on Supreme Court and Politics, Liberty and Corruption and  Justice K K Mathew’s Book on Democracy, Equality and Freedom,

Prof Madhav Menon on Clinical Education,

Prof Ponnuswami on Casebook on Contract,

Prof  Sivaramayya on Inequalites and the Law,

Prof R. V. Kelkar’s monumental work on Criminal Procedure with an entirely new topic approach,

Prof K N Chandrasekharan Pillai on General Principles of Criminal Law,

Prof Ahmad Siddique on Criminology.

Prof M P Singh was instrumental in introducing in the concept of Festschrifts which contain contributions by academics in honour of eminent Professors of law and we were fortunate to publish Festschrifts in honour of Prof P.K.Tripathi, Prof Lotika Sarkar and one for Prof M P Singh himself at the initiative of his daughter Swati Deva.

Good text books are the bedrock of good legal education and very recently in the past year or so, one of us Abhinandan Malik has innovated the EBC Explorer and Case Pilot features which link all the important cases in book with their full text on SCCOnline in addition to all articles and statutory material on that subject. So a student in the comfort of his home at all odd hours can access all the material he would otherwise find in a library and many libraries across India may not have the resources. More than that, the student can also through a forum interact with the Author and fellow students, which will further generate interest of students in the subject.

On the subject I will only say that Climate Change which to me on one of the most important topic concerning the world today which is invariably being discussed at all summit meetings of international leaders

With that I once again extend a warm welcome.
