Whatsapp non-compliant of Indian laws, Centre to file a response

Supreme Court: The Bench comprising of R F Nariman and Indu Malhotra, JJ., addressed a plea in which it had been alleged that “Whatsapp” has not been complying with the provision of appointment of a “grievance officer” along with some other Indian laws.

The plea was filed with the above-stated concern for which a notice to the Centre was issued regarding restraint to “Whatsapp” from proceeding with payment systems unless it becomes compliant with the provisions of Reserve Bank of India in regard to tax laws and other laws.

The Supreme Court bench has asked for a reply within 4 weeks. [CASC v. Union of India, WP(C) No. 921 of 2018, Order dated 27-08-2018]
