Amity Law School, Noida proudly brings to you the “Indian Rounds of Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition, 2019” which is scheduled to be held between 31st January– 03rd February 2019.

The Jessup Competition is the brainchild of Professor Richard R. Baxter at Harvard Law School, who worked with Professor Stephen M. Schwebel (who later on became President of the International Court of Justice) to create a courtroom simulation experience grounded in International Law.

The Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition is the oldest and most prestigious international Moot competition in the world, attracting participants from almost 700 law schools across more than 90 countries, in recent years. The year 2019 expects record participation from 100 countries. The competition is the benchmark in the international Moot competitions. This program provides a stellar opportunity for students aspiring to join advocacy as a profession to learn about court craft.

A brief schedule of the event is produced below:

31st January: Registration for participants

1st February: Preliminary Rounds

2nd February: Preliminary Rounds & Quarter-Finals

3rd February: Semi-Final Rounds, Finals and Valedictory Ceremony

Day-1 (31st January)

1600 hours: Welcome. The 31 teams participating in the Philip C. Jessup International Moot Court Competition 2019- Indian Rounds have arrived and the registration process is about to start.

1700 hours: Registration begins.

1930 hours: Registration of all 31 teams have been completed.

Day-2 (1st February)

0755 hours: Respective teams have left their accommodation and shall reach Amity Law School, Noida in approx; 30 minutes.

 

0825 hours: The teams have reached the venue for the competition, best of luck to all!

0845 hours: There would be in toto seven preliminary rounds, four of which have been scheduled for the day.

0847 hours: Judges for the preliminary rounds have started to arrive, orientation for the judges will follow subsequently.

0850 hours: A briefing session for all the participants is being conducted by Mr. Michael Peil, National Administrator, Jessup India National Rounds, 2019.

 

0930 hours: Judges for the preliminary round are being briefed.

 

 

1000 hours: Preliminary round 01, commences with 10 teams.

1210 hours: Preliminary round 01 has concluded. The judges and the participants take a break before preliminary round 02 begins…

 

1250 hours: Preliminary round 02, commences with 14 teams.

 

1355 hours: Preliminary round 02 has concluded.

 

1530  hours: Preliminary round 03 commences with 16 teams.

 

1645 hours: The volunteers of Amity Law School, Noida engaged in a short interaction with the judges during a short break prior to the preliminary round 04.

1745 hours: Preliminary round 03 has concluded.

1800 hours: The judges were felicitated by the Ms. Bhavna Batra, Deputy Administrator, and Convener, Indian National Rounds, Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition, 2019.

 

1810 hours: Preliminary round 04 commences with 16 teams.

1955 hours: Preliminary round 04 concludes. The remaining preliminary rounds i.e. 05 to 07 will be held tomorrow along with the quarter-final rounds.

Day-3 (2nd February)

0827 hours: All participants have arrived at the venue for the competition (Amity Law School, Noida, I-Block). There shall be a total of 03 preliminary rounds and a Quarter-final rounds today.

0830 hours: Judges for the Preliminary Rounds have arrived, judges briefing will commence soon.

 

 

0905 hours:  Preliminary round 05 commences with 20 teams.

Glad to be back at Amity, it feels great. We at Jessup have high expectations which are met at Amity. We are thankful to all the Student volunteers and fantastic faculties who have helped us in organizing this Indian National Rounds. The feedback which we have got from the Judges are also positive they all have specifically appreciated the hospitality which they have received here.

Further, he stated that Amity Law School, Noida is an institution which is universally recognized in India. Hence, we are even glad that this year Amity has provided us with Guest House Accommodation in the campus itself which makes the commute effortless. A significant change which we have incorporated this year is a short-orientation program to conserve time. Again, I would like to thank Ms. Bhavna Batra, Deputy National & Convener Administrator Jessup 2019 And her volunteers who have tireless worked throughout in order to make the Indian National Rounds a success. Hence, Amity and Jessup; both are on a mission to achieve excellence.

1020 hours: Preliminary round 05 concludes.

1125 hours: The judges were felicitated by Mr. Michael Peil, National Administrator, Jessup India National Rounds, 2019.

1145 hours: Preliminary round 06 commences with 24 teams.

 

1310 hours: Preliminary round 06 concludes and the teams have proceeded for lunch.

1330 hours: The volunteers of Amity Law School, Noida engaged in a short interaction with the judges during a short break prior to the preliminary round 06.

 

1420 hours: Preliminary round 07 commences with 26 teams.

1608 hours: The final preliminary round 07 has ended after which the results for the preliminary rounds will be declared.

1620 hours: Compilation of results has started, results will be announced shortly.

1635 hours: In midst of Competition a lighter moment captured, wherein our legal fraternity smiles.

 

1710 hours: The results for the preliminary rounds have been declared. The following teams have qualified for the Quarterfinal rounds in no specific order.

1010 hours: The Judges’ Briefing commenced.

1030 hours: Semi-final rounds have commenced.

1215 hours: Semi-final rounds have concluded. Results shall be announced shortly.

1230 hours: The teams qualified for the Final Rounds are in no specific order-

It is a matter of infinite contentment and glorification that Amity Law School, Noida is hosting with pride with most awaited illustrious and intellectual Indian Qualifying rounds of Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition, 2019. We are honored to provide a platform to the participating students to have a phenomenal experience of arguing amidst an eminent panel of leading practitioners and industry experts and en route a deeper understanding of the law.

I spread my appreciation to the participating teams for their perseverance and commitment and encourage them to follow the principles of veracity, morality, hard work and humility in the legal profession. I also augment deep sense gratefulness to my fellow colleagues and student fraternity.

1637 hours: Welcome speech by Dr. Shefali Raizada, Additional Director, Amity Law School, Noida

 

1638 hours:  Enlighting words by Prof. S.S. Singh, Dean, Amity Law School, Noida (AUUP). Wherein sir quoted importance of Moot Courts in evolving a law students attitude, skills, and knowledge.

1642 hours: Enlighting words by  Prof. Dilip K. Bandyopadhyay , Chairman, Amity Law Schools 

1647 hours: Mr. Michael Peil, National Administrator, Jessup India National Rounds, 2019 gave an overview of the competition.

 

1652 hours: Address by Guest of Honour Ms. Sarah Greenbaum, Third Secretary (Political), Australian High Commission.

1657 hours: Address by our Guest of Honour Hon’ble Mr. Justice R K Gauba, Delhi High Court. He gives his best wishes to the teams.

1702 hours:  Hon’ble Ms. Justice Pratibha M Singh, Delhi High Court discussed the importance of organizing All India Mooting Fund for Students to assist and help young minds understanding the nuances of practical court room set up.

1706 hours: Address by Prof. (Dr.) Balvinder Shukla, Vice-Chancellor, Amity University, Uttar Pradesh.

1711 hours:  Chief Guest Hon’ble Mr. Justice S.K. Kaul, Supreme Court stated: “litigation lawyers are like surgeons of law field.”
