About the Competition

School of Law, CHRIST(deemed to be University) Bangalore, Intellectual Property Rights Committee in collaboration with K&S partners and media partners, Eastern Book Company and SCC online present the National Essay Writing Competition on Intellectual Property Rights and Sports.

This is a student engagement initiative to allow students of law to hone their skills in research and writing by initiating the process of research in upcoming areas of law in the country. The competition aims at providing a platform for evaluation of the interplay between intellectual property rights and sports.

Intellectual Property plays an integral role in the world of sports as there are huge commercial opportunities offered by it. Intellectual Property rights especially patents, trademarks and broadcasting rights and the legal protection they give help to secure the economic value of sport. This in turn stimulates growth of the sports industry, enables sporting organizations to finance high-profile sports events, and provides the means to promote sports development. Business transactions related to technology, branding, design, broadcasting, licenses and sponsorship are all built on Intellectual Property rights.

Theme

The Theme for the National Essay Writing Competition is Intellectual Property Rights and Sports.

Eligibility

  1. Authors must be pursuing their LLB (Hons.)/LLB from any recognized University to be eligible to participate in the competition.  Only one submission per author will be accepted. Multiple or incomplete submissions lead to disqualification.
  2. Co-authorship is permitted to a maximum of 2 student authors.

Registration Procedure

  1. The registration fee for the competition is as follows
  • ? 150 for single author.
  • ? 200 for joint authors.
  1. The payment of the registration amount can be made The payment can be made under the fee name head “Fest” in the drop down menu of the Portal. The Participants may choose Essay Writing Competition-IPR & Sport-Single Author, or Essay Writing Competition-IPR & Sport-Joint Author, from the dropdown menu as applicable.
  2. Kindly fill the registration form here, once the payments are made.

Submission Guidelines:

  1. Submission shall be in the English language.
  2. Submission shall be typewritten in an A4 sized document with a 1-inch margin on all sides and be justified.
  3. The main text of the submission shall be in Font Times New Roman 12-point. Further, footnotes shall be in Font Times New Roman 10-point.
  4. The Citation style to be adopted for the submissions is 20th Harvard Bluebook Edition.
  5. The line spacing of the submissions must be 1.5 Spacing (except footnotes which may be single-spaced).
  6. Word limit of the submission is 3,000 words (excluding abstract and footnotes). Abstract should not be more than 300 words.
  7. The submission must be accompanied by a separate document containing the following information about the participant: Full name of the participant, Title of the submission, Participant’s current year of study and name of the degree pursued, Name and full address of the participant’s university, Name and full postal address of the participant, Phone number of the participant, e-mail ID of the participant and payment details inclusive of a screenshot of the same as a separate attachment.
  8. Any submission that is found to be plagiarized shall be subject to disqualification with immediate effect.
  9. The participant shall not include his/her name in the submission’s text in any form.
  10. Any previously published entry would not be permitted.
  11. The Copyright of the submission shall remain exclusively with School of Law, CHRIST(Deemed to be University) which reserves the right of publication of the same in any book, journal, or in any other manner as it may deem appropriate, without providing any royalty or compensation.
  12. By entering the competition, the participants agree to indemnify the organizers from and against all claims, suits and damages based on any claim of copyright infringement or plagiarism or unauthorized use.
  13. In case of any conflicts, the decision of the organizers is final and binding.

Submission Procedure

  1. The submission shall be made only in MS-Word format (.doc/.docx). PDF form shall not be accepted
  2. Submissions must be sent by email at ipressay@law.christuniversity.in with the Subject “Submission for National Essay Writing Competition on Intellectual Property Rights and Sports”.
  3. The deadline for submission is 15th November 2019 (11:59 pm). Any submission received beyond the deadline will be rejected.
