The ILNU team comprising Shruti Verma, Anusha Shekhawat and Deepak’s Singh’s Jadoun has been adjudged as WINNERS of the Commonwealth Legal Education Association (CLEA) Moot Court Competition (India rounds) 2019 held at Kerala. The team has also won the citation for the Second Best Memorial.
Commonwealth Moot Court Competition is one of the most prestigious International Moot Court Competitions. By virtue of winning the national rounds, our team has qualified for the World Rounds to be held in Zambia. ILNU  hopes that the winning streak of the team will not be hindered by any level of competition. The team has made ILNU proud and we wish to win the world rounds as well.
The team stood 2nd in the preliminary rounds, whereas defeated Dr. Ambedkar Law University, Chennai and NLIU Bhopal in the quarters and semi-finals respectively. In the final rounds, the team defeated NLIU Bhopal and has qualified to represent India in the 21st Commonwealth Moot Court Competition to be held in Zambia in April, 2019.

The International Seminar on Transnational Litigation will be held on 23-24 March 2019 by Centre for ADR, Institute of Law, Nirma University in Association with ICC International Court of Arbitration and Penn State University- International Arbitration Group.

About the Seminar

International Arbitration is a growing field which is developing at a fast pace with lots of advancements and this Seminar will play host to large-scale discussions which makes it a networking event of varied domains of learning. Furthermore, the event will include a panel discussion on the International Arbitration and its nuances which will include people working in this area and other allied fields, leading to a fruitful knowledge discourse.

Additionally, it gives a wondrous opportunity to all the researchers by providing an ideal academic platform for Research Papers on themes related to International Arbitration and to present the latest research findings and describe emerging areas and directions in this field.

In addition to technical papers and other events, attendees will witness launch event of Nirma Arbitration Journal, which will be add on to this interactive Seminar.

Aims and Objectives

  • The proposed seminar aims to encourage research in bringing out synergy involved in alliance between multiple disciplines of Arbitration and enlighten variety of perspectives on the given theme.
  • The seminar seeks to provide an opportunity to thinkers from across the world to deliberate and share their profound knowledge and understandings about International Commercial Arbitration by sharing their experiences and views which will stimulate fruitful knowledge discourse.
  • It would seek to explore different dimensions of International Arbitration by analysing the nuances and reflecting upon the positive side of International Arbitration. This would engage a better learning environment and will explore different facets of the topic.
  • We look forward to make this not only a learning opportunity at the seminar, but also offer a destination where you can unwind and rejoice the exchange of state-of-art knowledge in an ever-evolving field.

The theme of the Seminar is “The Magic of International Arbitration”.

  2. Specific Performance Against a Sovereign State
  3. Artificial Intelligence in the Arbitral Procedure
  4. Third-Party Funders and Security for Cost.

Eligibility

Seminar papers are invited from academicians, practitioners, researchers, scholars, and students on the issues related to specified themes. Authors of selected papers would be given an opportunity to present their papers on the day of the seminar in person.

Nature of Submissions

The submissions include Research Papers [5000-7000 words], Articles [3500-5000 words] and Essays [2500-3000]

Submission Guidelines

  1. Joint authorship is permitted to a maximum of two authors. However both the authors have to Register Separately.
  2. Submissions are required to be in Garamond font, line spacing 1.5, paragraphs single spaced, with the font size as 12 and footnote font size as 10. The footnotes should have line spacing of 1.0.
  3. Only footnotes shall be used in the submission.
  4. Manuscripts must necessarily be related to the topics mentioned.
  5. The manuscript must be preceded by an abstract of not more than 350 words.
  6. The manuscript must be in conformity with the Bluebook: A Uniform System of Citation (20th Edition).
  7. The manuscript shall only have one author.
  8. The manuscript must not contain any mention or reference to the author’s name, affiliation or credentials. Such information must be restricted to a separate cover page which must contain a brief biographical description of the author and co-author (if any) and include the author’s affiliation, qualifications, and contact details.
  9. The manuscript must be submitted in a Microsoft Word (.doc/.docx) format only.
  10. The manuscript must be emailed to the address mentioned below.
  11. The manuscript must be an original unpublished work. The author must also confirm that the manuscript is not being considered for publication elsewhere.
  12. If necessary, Nirma University Law Journal (NULJ) may request the author to provide a printed copy of the manuscript, in addition to the electronic copy.

The Team from Institute of Law, Nirma University represented by Rajat Sinha, Vatsal Patel and Anuj Bajaj, all third year students were awarded the Second Best Memorial and the Best Researcher Awards, the latter of which entailed a prize money of Rs 5000 at 12th NALSAR Justice B.R. Sawhny Memorial Moot Court Competition, 2018. The B.R. Sawhny Moot Court Competition was held between 12-14th October. The competition this year involved a complex problem revolving around the recommendations of the Finance Commission and the federal fiscal autonomy of different States of the Union.

We are happy to announce that the ‘Mission Sangharsh’ as an student organization of Institute of Law, Nirma University is delighted to launch its first flagship ‘National Essay Writing Competition 2018’ in association with Centre for Social Justice. The Competition aims to mobilize students from all over India to get acquainted with the mission and vision of the organization. This competition aims to intrigue the students in the country of the rampant issues prevailing in India and to gather their inputs in order to take a step in furtherance of curtailing its effect and determining the road map ahead to face the challenges. We encourage students to be creative and suggestive in their approach so that the same can be adopted as a measure in improving the status quo wherever possible.

Guidelines for submission:

  • The manuscript shall be accompanied by an abstract of not more than 300 words in MS-Word Document. The manuscript should be of 2000 to 3000 words.
  • The contributors are permitted to submit a co-authored entry for the journal provided it should not exceed a maximum of TWO authors in each case. However, both authors are required to pay the individual registration fee.
  • The journal strictly encourages and entertains Original work and any kind of plagiarism shall lead to disqualification of the paper.
  • The contributors to the journal are requested to follow ANY UNIFORM CITATION STYLE for the article.
  • The authors are requested to submit their work in:

Under the aegis of Institute of Law, Nirma University, the Centre for Human Rights Law organised the Seventh Edition of its Annual Flagship Event, National Students Conference on “International Humanitarian and Refugee Laws” in association with the International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC) and United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) on 8th August, 2018.

The Chief Guest of the function was Mr. Manoj Kumar, Director- Indian Law Institute and Guest of Honor was Prof. Nagendra Singh, Professor Emeritus, Maharshi Law School. There were around 37 universities that participated in paper presentation process. Many esteemed personalities chaired three technical sessions of the event. The winners were handed over prizes with a vote of thanks by Student Coordinator to all the participants imparting such deep thoughts through reflection of their papers on issues like women, LGBT and refugees.

It is our pleasure to announce that the 8th edition of the Institute of Law, Nirma University-National Moot Court Competition (8th ILNU-NMCC), 2018 hosted by the Institute of Law, Nirma University, Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India is scheduled to be held from August 31st – 02nd September, 2018. This year the competition is grandeur as it is organized in association with the Competition Commission of India. The Moot Court Organizing Committee, ILNU is pleased to invite team from your esteemed institution to participate in this eulogized moot court competition.

We are delighted to announce that we have also associated with Gaggar and Partners, one of the most renowned law firms of the country in the field of Competition Law, as organizing partners of the competition. We are also pleased to announce that we have also associated with SCC Online and Eastern Book Company as the Exclusive Official Knowledge Partner of the Competition. Team Composition & Eligibility: All teams shall consist of a maximum of three participants (two members designated as ‘Speaker’ and one member designated as ‘Researcher’), enrolled as full-time L.L.B. students (both 3 year and 5 year programme) in the law school they represent at the time of the Competition. No person enrolled in a postgraduate law programme may act as a team member.

Theme: The problem for this edition of the moot is based on Competition Law and Constitutional Law.

Prizes: Prizes worth Rs. 1.5 lakh and the top two teams will also secure 1 month internship at Gaggar and Partners, New Delhi.

ILNU Team comprising of Siddharth Chechani,  Ridhwick Doshi and Nitya Jain were declared Runners Up in the National Funding Rounds of Manfred Lachs International Space Law Moot Court Competition 2018 held at NLSIU Bangalore from 24-25th March, 2018 . In addition to this,  the team qualified for the Asia Pacific Rounds of the said moot where they won all the four prelims but missed to make it to semis by few marks.

ILNU  team comprising of Sourabh Pancholi, Divyang Bhatia and Ojasvi Sharma were adjudged as the Winners of the 7th Amity International Moot Court Competition 2017, held in New Delhi. It is one of the listed Moot Courts in the MPL rankings. The competition saw the participation of around 30 teams including some of the prestigious NLUs like NLIU, RMNLU, GNLU and various other law colleges like Symbiosis and Christ University.

ILNU team comprising of Jaya Singh, Piyush Swami and Rishabh Rela was declared winners of the 14th Nani Palkhivala Memorial Tax Moot Court Competition. Theme of the competition was International Taxation. The Team qualified for the memorial selection rounds where only top 16 teams were selected.

Further they went to the competition where the team defeated NLS, Bangalore in preliminary rounds, Jamia Milia Islamia in quarterfinals, Amity Law School, Delhi in semi-finals and Army Institute of Law, Mohali in the finals. In addition to this, Jaya Singh was adjudicated as the Second Best Speaker in the competition.

Institute of Law Nirma University (ILNU) team comprising of Ravleen Chhabra, Priya Khemchandani and Shreshth Vardhan (all 3rd year students) won the 13th South Asian Rounds of the 17th Henry Dunant Moot Court Competition 2017 held in Nepal.

The team in the South Asian Rounds defeated Iran and Pakistan in the preliminary rounds. In the semi-finals they defeated GNLU, Iran, Sri Lanka and Nepal. In the finals they were declared the winners against Sri Lanka. The Indian team shall be representing South Asia in the Asia Pacific Rounds of the Red Cross Henry Dunant Moot Court Competition 2017 in Hong Kong. This team was also the winners of the National Rounds of the Henry Dunant Moot Court Competition 2017.
